COGIC UK mourns the passing of Revd. Carmel Jones

God shall wipe away all tears from your eyes…… Rev 21:4

It is with profound sadness that COGIC UK announces the death on Saturday 22nd July of one of our ministers, the late Revd Carmel Jones. The history of his rejection by the Anglican Church is well documented but their loss was COGIC’s gain.  Revd Jones joined the Church of God in Christ in his late teens and remained until his passing serving the church in a number of capacities. He was a deacon, an elder, a pastor, a member of the Trustee Board, former member of the Executive Board and Assistant General Secretary. He was a man with a vision and integrity, He loved and was loved and respected by peers and others, and an inspiration to others.  He was always ready to give sound advice and help in whatever capacity he could. He will be greatly missed.

With a vision for the spiritual and economic growth of the Black community, he founded the Pentecostal Credit Union (PCU) where he worked tirelessly to assist the community and churches with loans to purchase homes and churches at a time when it was difficult to access funding from the banks. The PCU grew from strength to strength and has become one the largest credit unions in the UK.  He has left a remarkable legacy.

We offer our condolences to his wife and the entire Jones family and our prayers are continually with them. May God grant them peace and comfort, during this very difficult time of bereavement.
