On Friday 24th May to Monday 27th May 2019, Calvary Church of God in Christ (COGIC) UK will be hosting the first ever COGIC International Regional Youth Rally, energising and celebrating young people from all over the world including: the UK, Europe, US, Cuba, Ethiopia, Portugal and Gambia.
COGIC UK has always sought to give its youth: ‘Direction and Hope’ and this year’s theme is aimed at igniting the gifts, talents and passion of young people for community engagement and ministry. Specifically, international delegates will have the opportunity to engage with local charities in Luton through volunteering opportunities and serve some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
The event co-host Pastor Stephen Nelson (National Youth President, COGIC UK) had this to say, “I’m looking forward to this event encouraging young people to showcase their gifts and inspiring them to be beacons to other young people who may be facing difficulties, in the UK and around the world.”
The event will be held at COGIC UK’s national headquarters, 127 Dunstable Road, Luton, Bedfordshire LU1 1BW from Friday 24th to Monday 27th May, a key part of the event will be allowing young people from all over the world to connect and network. International Regional Youth President Elder Steven Fluker Hill (COGIC USA) had this to say, ‘I’m so excited to be coming to the UK to make history in hosting an event of this kind for the first time in the Uk. We want young people to understand that whilst we may differ in languages and looks, we serve the same God; who is able to help us in the very similar situations we all face.’ In fact, it has been widely noted that some of the key issues concerning millennials are poverty, inequality, food, safety, lack of education and lack of employment.1 ’ Through this convention and our various initiatives COGIC UK aim to tackle some of the issues that most concern our young people.
COGIC UK’s National Youth Convention will feature educational workshops, extravagant praise and empowering preaching over the 4 days. The conference is open to all ages, but will focus on inspiring the next generation, developing young leaders and connecting over 100+ delegates from a number of countries, with local UK attendees.
The conference will also showcase COGIC’s spiritual and life skills courses that run all year long- Young Men of Valour and Young Women of Excellence. Chairlady Sheila Thomas had this to say: ‘We really want this to be an event where we can develop young people both spiritually, educationally, mentally and physically to fulfil their potential. We want to face the difficult subjects in our society and build on our previous work, such as our workshop last year on gun and knife crime and Christian dating.’
COGIC UK’s National Youth Convention will also celebrate it’s 65th anniversary. The celebration will have a praise extravaganza including: COGIC Tottenham’s, Rebecca Folkes, known on the music scene as ‘Becca Folkes.’ Becca Folkes is a singer/songwriter, who is making an indelible mark on the UK gospel scene with her distinctive vocals.
